Slightly Faster Server
Jimmoy.com runs on a PII/266 now, an upgrade in speed from the old machine. Got it on eBay for $28, which is an amusing story in itself. Everything’s a little faster, MovableType rebuilds pages quicker, the photo album makes thumbnails a bit snappier, so that’s nice.

Hmm $28, thats about my price range
What OS are you running on it? I take it some form of linux, can you run X Windows. I have a P133 with 48megs of RAM and I’ve tried a few distros with not too much success in the speed department.

The old machine was a P166 with 128M RAM, and Mandrake 8.1 ran on it just fine. But you do have to get in there and turn stuff off that they want to run from init.d at startup. It takes a little fiddling with the installer to do that, but it’s worth it. Yes, it ran KDE, but very slooooowly.
