Numeric Rating System

(5) = Best; (4) = Better; (3) = Good; (2) = Fair; (1) = OK

These abstracts serve as reminders to myself; they serve to "jog" my memory on what a book was all about. That's all. This is not a literary critique, not a social commentary, and certainly nothing profound to warrant further discussion.

(5) = means that I really enjoyed this book; (1) = means I finished reading it but wonder if my time could have been better spent elsewhere.

State of Fear by Michael Crichton

Filed under: — Yee Gan @ 6:25 pm

Crichton is a good storyteller. His books always deal with some kind of science related fact or fiction; in this case both are combined. The story deals with climate warming. The debate is whether climate warming is taking place or not, and the story involves unsavory characters in the environmental movement who include murder in their strategy if it will help their cause. They are in the middle of causing a giant undersea earthquake to induce a tsunami to disrupt the west coast of the United States where a national conference on climate warming is taking place. The publicity will be wonderful to call attention to their cause. Of course, Crichton suggests that the environmentalist’s argument are wrong and scientists can prove that earth is cooling down instead. (4.0)
